The coffee post
I'm nearly done acquiring a taste for it. My approach has been wholistic—not only have I been forcing down a cup a day, I've changed my iPod wallpaper to a picture of a steaming cup with the caption 'sweet nectar of life' and have been listening to 'Java Jive' on repeat. I'm talking black coffee by the way. I decided to start with that partly because of a preference for simplicity and partly because I've been harbouring a no-longer-secret desire to be a person who drinks black coffee of epic strength. Seems to be working out—I ordered a cappuccino at McD's the other day and blergh.
This week I have learned that:
1) You should leave the water to cool a bit before brewing coffee because boiling water makes the coffee release more undesirable bitterness.
2) Black coffee is one of the healthier ways to get your caffeine—less sugar than stuff like Lift+ and V.
(Let me know if either of these are actually bollocks.)
3) Coffee + iPod = air piano. Question: favourite music for air piano/guitar/instrument of choice? Actually, favourite air instrument?
4) I am willing to torment my taste-buds for the sake of feeling awesome but not to improve my health. Mum wanted to know why, if I can acquire a taste for coffee, I can't do the same for Weetbix (pictured on the right).

You know you've been playing too much Nethack when you refer to coffee as a potion of sleep resistance. Sweeney Todd Lundgren (= one for Ally)
Coffee, the finest organic suspension ever devised. Star Trek: Voyager (= one for me)
Caffeine is my shepherd; I shall not doze.
It maketh me to wake in green pastures:
It leadeth me beyond the sleeping masses.
It restoreth my buzz:
It leadeth me in the paths of consciousness for its name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of addiction,
I will fear no Equal™:
For thou art with me; thy cream and thy sugar they comfort me.
Thou preparest a carafe before me in the presence of The Starbucks:
Thou anointest my day with pep; my mug runneth over.
Surely richness and taste shall follow me all the days of my life:
And I will dwell in the House of Mochas forever.
