BTT: Fantasy and Sci-Fi
One of my favorite sci-fi authors (Sharon Lee) has declared June 23rd Fantasy and Science Fiction Writers Day.
As she puts it:
So! In my Official Capacity as a writer of science fiction and fantasy, I hereby proclaim June 23 Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Day! A day of celebration and wonder! A day for all of us readers of science fiction and fantasy to reach out and say thank you to our favorite writers. A day, perhaps, to blog about our favorite sf/f writers. A day to reflect upon how written science fiction and fantasy has changed your life.
So … what might you do on the 23rd to celebrate? Do you even read fantasy/sci-fi? Why? Why not?
Yay! I've never read much sci-fi (television is a different story) but fantasy is my literary hometown. I'll probably make a cake, 'cos that's standard practise in my family for this kind of thing. A themed cake. =D I'll definitely spare a few thoughts for my favourite SFF writers and their positive influence, probably read some fantasy, maybe blog... What, if anything, are you planning? Please share so I can copy! :-)
Fantasy is an exercise bicycle for the mind. It might not take you anywhere, but it tones up the muscles that can. Of course, I could be wrong. Terry Pratchett

I have never been a SF person, but Fantasy is starting to take a grip on my heart, surprising as that is to me.
My answer is here at The Burton Review
I don't read much sci-fi/fantasy, but I love the cake idea!
I agree -- absolutely love fantasy books, just a way to escape the everyday.
I love both genres. Here is mineI
Hahaha! Could you have HAD a better BTT question? Didn't think so! :P
Not a fantasy reader here, but the comment about preferring that genre to stuff set in "real life" makes a lot of sense. :)
I don't really read fantasy, apart from Harr Potter and the Hobbit/LOTR - do they even count? I have read two of the Windsinger trilogy and a bit of Mercedes Lackey and they were fine but not really my thing. Maybe I'll try again sometime.
I'd suggest borrowing my LOTR Risk for Fantasy day, but unfortunately it's at my dad's place, buried somewhere. I still have no idea how to play it!
Baking a themed cake is a great idea!! I like books that let me escape from the here and now as well.
I have never read any fantasy novels the genre has never taken my interest . Sci -Fi I use to read Star Trek novels regularly until I found that my local library wouldn't bother to stock all the books in a series . Sometimes I would read book one only to find that I cant borrow book two or three e.t.c .
I've never really took to fantasy myself, but certainly sci fi I enjoy, and you get a bit of fantasy in horror, which I also like.
SF/F? YES, PLEASE!
Heyla, it's been awhile. Talk about the perfect prompt for us. Terry Pratchett is in the queue.
Queenofthecastle, yes, they count. Tolkien is not only classic, but the LOTR movies really helped in repopularizing fantasy. Which Lackey did you read? Some of her stuff is better than others and her books range tastes. I'm sure Jennifer and I could give you some recommendations.
